Maritime Capacity Building

The mission

In 2016, the Belgian Navy was on a mission in West Africa. This year, the command and logistical support ship A960 GODETIA returns for “Maritime Capacity Building 2018” (MCB 18).

During the mission, the A960 GODETIA visits several West African countries to strenghten the mutual cooperation. Belgian sailorstrain and exchange experiences and knowledge with their African counterparts. The A960 GODETIA will participate in severalmultinational exercises with African European and American navies and coastguards.

Pillar defence diplomacy

The A960 GODETIA and her crew represent Belgium on the seas of the world. During the port visits, the ship’s commander traditionally invites aboard diplomats and representatives of various local authorities.

Pillar surveillance

The A960 GODETIA supports national efforts and several international initiatives for maritime surveillance.

Pillar solidarity

The Belgian Navy grasps the opportunity to support various solidarity projects in the countries visited by transporting material aid.

Pillar training

With the goal of improving maritime security, the crew of the A960 GODETIA trains and exchanges best practices with several West African partner navies.
